Chiropractic is that branch of the healing arts that seeks to restore normal body function by correcting the alignment of the spine and extremity joints. These misalignments or subluxations not only cause local pain and malfunction, but they also can disturb the normal communication from the brain to the body and from the body to the brain. This communication happens through the nervous system, that intricate network of connections between the brain and body.
Subluxations are injuries. The subluxated joint becomes irritated and inflamed, which produces swelling within the joint. This swelling can cause small but significant amounts of pressure to nerve roots and sometimes to adjacent sections of the spinal cord. The inflammatory process also produces irritating chemicals that aggravate the nerves further. The result is distortion or disruption of communication. Your brain sends a message, your body gets a different message. Or your body’s sensory organs gather information to send back to the brain, but the brain receives different information. When communication is disrupted, function becomes malfunction – what we call pain and disease.
At Pike Chiropractic Inc. we have a very straight forward treatment goal: to eliminate the subluxations and related problems in each patient to the greatest degree possible. We want to restore that patient to health and function as quickly and inexpensively as we can. Elimination of a subluxation is called an “adjustment.” The most common and traditional mode of adjustment is a manual manipulation of the bones within a joint to return these component parts to their neutral functional positions. When the joints work right, the nerves work right, the body is in balance and symptoms disappear.
Adjustments of vertebral subluxations are accomplished with precise leverage applied to the misaligned joint to coax it back to its normal location. There are various methods to accomplish this, depending on the needs of the individual patient. Each method is applied skillfully and effectively to achieve the maximum correction in the shortest amount of time, with little or no discomfort.
Appointments are scheduled as needed, according to the severity of the problem and rate of improvement from one treatment to the next. As a patient’s symptoms reduce, so does the frequency of treatment. There is no predetermined treatment plan. Nor is there any up front or prepaid fee for such a plan. We try to work within the limits of your insurance plan and your financial circumstances, and still provide the care necessary to restore you to good health.
